What is Section 125?
- The US Congress created Code section 125 in an effort to make benefit programs more affordable for employees.
- Section 125 is part of the IRS Code that allows employees to convert a taxable cash benefit (salary) into non-taxable benefits. Under a Section 125 program you may choose to pay for qualified benefit premiums before any taxes are deducted from employee paychecks.
- The Section 125 program is a tremendous opportunity for you to enhance your benefits package.
- The Premium Only Plan is the building block of the Section 125 Plan. It allows for certain employee paid group insurance premiums to be paid with pre-tax dollars. The qualified premiums (if offered by employer) are:

POP/FSA - Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Plans permit you to pay for certain healthcare and dependent care expenses with pre-tax money. Because you will not pay any state, federal, or social security taxes on income placed in the plan, you can potentially save up to forty or even fifty dollars for every $100 you elect to defer. Total savings will depend on your state and federal tax brackets.
401k Administration

The Social Security Number Verification Service ensures you a match between employee names and Social Security numbers (SSNs) with Social Security records before preparing and submitting Forms W-2. Making sure names and SSNs on the W-2 match is important because unmatched records can result in additional processing costs for you and uncredited earnings for your employees. Uncredited earnings can affect future eligibility to (and amounts paid under) Social Security's retirement, disability and survivors program.
